Drifting Away (Tanka)

Difficult to see
through blurry eyes that wander
that we've been drifting
ever so far from the shore
where we once held hands and kissed

Courage (Haiku)

Dew drenched leaves arise
while Mother stands strong and tall
rooted in courage

Stretched (Tanka)

Staring at success
I stretch as far as I can
seeking to touch it
and bring it back home with me
to prove I'm more than you thought

Hearts for Haiti

 Hearts for Haiti
Book of Poetry & Inspiration

To listen to a sample, click here

This book was created a few years ago and many wonderful poets, artists and voice over artists contributed to it. Its purpose was to donate its proceeds to Haitian relief agencies to help the country rebuild after the devastation it endured with the 2010 earthquake. We did not sell many books unfortunately.

The GREAT news is ASJ Publishing recently picked it up and published the audio version (which also comes with a pdf of the book so you get the wonderful artwork as well).

Ken Maxon was the mastermind behind the voice overs as he coordinated many wonderful voice over artists to contribute.

Above is a link to HEARTS FOR HAITI Book of Poetry & Inspiration - Audio Version (which includes pdf). Thank you so much to all who contributed!

Don't forget to check out the sample recording.  Enjoy!

Stillness (Tanka)

 The still of her soul
quieted the raging storm
of relentless waves
pounding the mental shoreline
with visions of a shipwreck

In Bloom (Haiku)

Soft skin peels away
exposing inner beauty
fragrant songs emerge

Unintended (Spoken Word)

Spinning in circles,
going nowhere;
jumping hurdles;
gasping for air;
seeking answers;
not what it seems;
empty promises;
shattered dreams;
careless whispers;
racing minds;
slow down a minute you're going blind.
things that matter,
things that don't;
people who'll care,
people who won't;
giving love,
finding hate;
hold my heart but please don't break.
searching for truth;
telling lies;
lovers laugh;
 loneliness cries;
counting good deeds;
subtracting sins;
keeping score;
no one wins;
pain filled moments;
stolen breaths;
longing for shelter;
inching toward death;
a loving touch;
a long embrace;
kissing lips;
where is this place;
hand to mouth;
unattainable wealth;
 incurable disease;
poor mental health;
winners and losers;
predators and prey...

I truly don't believe God intended it this way.

Wandering Sun

While gazing at clouds embracing the sky,
Her voice spoke sadly of days gone by.
She sketched the future and feared its form,
Predicting more rain, before the storm.

No sunlight to wander;
No flowers to ponder;
Only clouds of grey
Led her thoughts astray.

Painting the sky in colors that bled,
Its poisonous rain is coming she said;
"The winds are blowing this way I fear"
Insisting a storm is certainly near.

No sunlight to wander;
No flowers to ponder;
Only clouds of grey
Led her thoughts astray.

Then her mind became quiet
And her fear ceased its riot;
From the clouds burst the light,
Warming the cold, fearful night.

The sunlight now wandered,
Through the flowers she pondered;
The colors so vibrant
It subdued her mind's tyrant.

Smudged

Bouncing off your reflection
You become smudged
As the ripples change direction
In the face of what only appeared to be.

Drifting away in pieces
Transparency allows tainted vision
to find the bottom
Where I plant my feet.

I wait for the wind to shift currents
Moving the earth beneath me
Thus allowing your face, once again
To meet with my eyes

But this time
I won’t be surprised.
